Columbia, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - University of Missouri athletic director Mike Alden has decided to step down from his post. Alden made the announcement in a letter to the university on Thursday. After several months of contemplation, I have decided that it is time for a change, both for me and for the University that I so dearly love. I have informed Chancellor (R. Bowen) Loftin of my decision to step down as the Director of Athletics effective August 31, 2015, Alden explained. We are proud of what we have accomplished over the past seventeen years, which is a lifetime for an athletics administrator. I am most proud of our tremendous coaches, staff and student-athletes and how they represent our University with academic integrity, social responsibility and competitive excellence. Alden has been at the helm since 1998, taking over for Joe Castiglione. He was named the Director of the Year in 2008 by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and will depart as the second-longest tenured AD in school history, behind only Don Faurot and equaling Chester L.
