TORONTO - Manager John Gibbons is shuffling his struggling starting rotation through the early part of the week. J.A. Happ will pitch Mondays series finale against the Oakland Athletics. Todd Redmond will be recalled from Triple-A Buffalo and pitch Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox. Josh Johnson, who was scheduled to pitch on Monday, moves to Wednesday. Esmil Rogers will return to the bullpen. Got it? First, Johnson: The big right-hander experienced tightness in his right forearm during his most recent start, a 7-2 win over the Seattle Mariners last Tuesday. "During the game it got a little tight but it was no big deal," Johnson told TSN.ca. "Woke up the next day and it was pretty sore and then it just kind of stayed sore. (Saturday) and (Sunday) its been feeling much, much better." Johnson has made minor mechanical adjustments in an effort to better stay on top of his pitches. He wasnt sure if the adjustments were the reason for his discomfort. He insists the issue isnt serious. "No panic," said Johnson. Happ will throw on regular rest, a luxury afforded him and the ballclub by last Thursdays off day. Following Mondays start, Happ will leave the team to attend his grandfathers funeral. The Blue Jays dont have to make a formal roster move on Redmond until Tuesday. One option would be to place Happ on the bereavement list, which would require him to miss a minimum of three games, irrelevant given that hes a starting pitcher who works every fifth day. Rogers went 2-5 with a 5.48 ERA in 13 starts. His problems have spiked of late. Rogers has allowed 22 runs (20 earned) in his last three starts. With 96 2/3 innings pitched this season, Rogers is well beyond his previous career high set in 2011 when he threw 83 innings in 18 appearances (13 starts) for Colorado. 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF CHRISTIE PITS RIOT Many thanks to the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto and The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs for inviting me to be part of Sunday mornings media softball game at Christie Pits. The event marked the 80th anniversary of the Christie Pits riot. The incident occurred on August 16, 1933, after a playoff baseball game between the predominantly Jewish Harbord Playground and St. Peters. A group of Nazi sympathizers descended on the park and displayed a swastika. Later, when confronted, a large fight broke out which grew to include about 10,000 people and lasted for six hours.
